The Astronaut War Eagles flag football team is entering the final stretch of the 2025-26 season with a 3-6 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the district. Based at Astronaut High School in Titusville, the team is currently ranked 448th nationally and 377th in the state of Florida according to MaxPreps. Coaches and players are working to turn the season around ahead of the district playoffs.
The team's struggles have been evident throughout the season, with only three wins in 15 games played. Their district record of 2-3 places them in eighth place in their division. Head coach Mark Thompson said the team is focusing on improving fundamentals ahead of their next home game on October 20 against the Cocoa High School Tigers.
Astronaut's schedule includes six remaining games, with key matchups against district rivals such as the Rockledge Raiders and the West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman Knights. The team has not won a district game since early September, but Thompson remains optimistic about the final stretch.
The War Eagles have faced challenges on both sides of the ball, with defensive stats lagging behind district averages. Senior captain Emily Carter said the team is working to build chemistry as the season progresses. 'We know we have to play better,' she said. 'Every game is a chance to improve.'
With the district playoffs approaching, the team's performance in the final weeks will determine their seeding. The War Eagles have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs in the past three seasons, but Thompson believes this group has the potential to make a run if they can secure a few key wins.
