Amazon has invested $400 million in Brevard County since 2020, creating 440 jobs and planning 1,000 more at a West Melbourne warehouse. The company’s Project Leo, based at Cape Canaveral, will launch over 3,000 internet satellites to compete with SpaceX’s Starlink. Amazon’s delivery vans are a common sight from Micco to Mims, but its space ambitions remain largely hidden. The company aims to use the Cape as a hub for processing and launching satellites to provide global internet service. Since late 2020, Amazon has built warehouses in Melbourne and Cocoa, with plans to expand. These facilities supported 2,000 indirect jobs in 2025, according to the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast. Lynda Weatherman, the commission’s CEO, said Amazon’s investment stands out for its scale and range of job opportunities. 'It provides job opportunities from the whole of the skill mix,' she said. The West Melbourne warehouse, spanning 1.2 million square feet, will be Amazon’s largest local facility. Company officials say the project will create 1,000 full-time jobs. Amazon’s presence has made it a major economic force in Brevard County, with officials expecting continued growth as the satellite project advances. The company’s investment includes both ground operations and space-based initiatives, reflecting its expanding role on the Space Coast.
