Michele McCormack, a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for Brevard Public Schools, is running for Brevard School Board District 5 in the 2026 election. A West Melbourne resident with over 20 years in Brevard, McCormack served in the military and holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and Deaf Education, along with a master’s in Deaf Education from Flagler College. She is one of six candidates vying for the nonpartisan seat, which covers parts of West Melbourne and surrounding areas.
McCormack’s teaching career includes working with students from kindergarten through 12th grade, supported by endorsements in ESOL, Reading, and American Sign Language. She maintains a Professional Florida Teaching Certificate in both Elementary and Deaf Education. Her experience also includes serving as a Mentor Teacher for new educators in Brevard Public Schools.
Since 2020, McCormack has been active in the Brevard Federation of Teachers, where she served as Political Coordinator. She regularly attends legislative sessions in Tallahassee to review education bills and provides feedback to local leaders. Locally, she participates in School Advisory Councils and Literacy Leadership Teams while engaging with families and educators to improve public schools.
McCormack was selected as Teacher of the Year at Meadowlane Primary School and continues to advocate for students with disabilities. She emphasizes collaboration between schools and communities to address challenges like resource gaps and staff retention. Her campaign has not yet released a detailed platform but highlights her commitment to education equity and accessibility.
