Kyle Savage, a Merritt Island resident with over a decade in Brevard County, is running for Brevard School Board District 2. A former U.S. Army veteran and remote IT professional, Savage taught 5th and 6th grade math and science in the district before transitioning to his current role in database support. He has three sons enrolled in local schools, which he says has given him a firsthand view of the challenges facing students and families.
Savage served as treasurer of the Brevard Federation of Teachers and worked on the Superintendent’s Insurance Advisory Committee. His community involvement includes coaching T-ball, serving as an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, and being a member of VFW Post 10148 in Cocoa Beach. He emphasized that much of his work has been unpaid and unpublicized, focused on helping neighbors rather than seeking recognition.
A graduate of Drury University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Savage earned his degree through the GI Bill after his Army service. He also holds a graduate certificate in teacher preparation from the University of Central Florida and a Florida K-6 teaching certification. His educational background, he said, has prepared him to address issues like curriculum standards and resource allocation.
Savage declined to mention specific policy proposals in the questionnaire, but highlighted his perspective as someone who has experienced the school system as both a teacher and a parent. He cited his time in the Army as shaping his approach to leadership and problem-solving, particularly in navigating complex systems to achieve outcomes.
The 2026 election for Brevard School Board District 2 will take place on November 8, 2026. Savage’s campaign has not yet released a detailed platform, but his questionnaire responses focus on his belief that understanding the district from multiple perspectives—educator, parent, and community member—is essential to effective governance.
