The 2026 Brevard County high school girls cross country season opens October 15 with the Brevard County Meet at the Brevard County Cross Country Course in Titusville. The event draws teams from 12 schools, including defending champions Satellite High and West Lake High, which finished first and second in 2025. Satellite High’s coach, Mark Thompson, said his team is targeting a repeat after winning the county title with a combined score of 68 points last year.
West Lake High, which placed second with 72 points in 2025, returns three state qualifiers from last season, including senior Sarah Nguyen, who finished third in the 2025 regional meet. Nguyen said the team is focused on improving its relay time by 10 seconds this year. “We’ve been training on the Titusville course every weekend since June,” she said. “The hills here are tough, but we’re ready.”
The meet will include 250 runners, with the top three teams qualifying for the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association state championships in Gainesville. Brevard County teams have dominated the state meet in recent years, winning five of the last seven titles. The county’s success is partly due to the Brevard County Cross Country Training Program, which provides free coaching to students in grades 9–12.
Other teams to watch include East River High, which finished fourth in 2025, and Cocoa High, which is fielding its strongest team since 2019. The meet will be broadcast live on Brevard Public Media, with results posted on the Brevard County School District website. The next county meet is scheduled for November 5, with the state championships set for November 12.
