The Brevard Humane Society’s 14th Annual East Coast Dog Surfing Festival will take place at Lori Wilson Park on Sunday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, a staple of Brevard County’s spring calendar, will feature dogs riding waves, competing in contests, and showing off Easter-themed costumes along Cocoa Beach’s shoreline. Registration for the festival is open through April 1, with organizers expecting hundreds of dogs and their owners to attend.
The Easter Outfit Contest will be a highlight, with participants dressing their pets in creative spring-themed costumes. Prizes will be awarded for categories like ‘Best Easter Bunny’ and ‘Most Creative Costume.’ Judges will evaluate entries based on originality, fit, and holiday spirit. Last year’s winner, a dog in a handmade pastel Easter hat, drew cheers from the crowd.
Other activities include dog agility courses, a pet adoption fair, and live music from local bands. Food vendors will sell seafood, craft beer, and festival fare. The event is family-friendly and free to attend, though donations to the Brevard Humane Society are encouraged. Organizers say the festival raises thousands of dollars annually for animal rescue programs.
Dogs must be registered for beach access, and all pets must be on-leash except during designated surfing competitions. The festival has grown significantly since its 2013 debut, with attendance doubling in the past five years. Lori Wilson Park, located at 1200 S. Atlantic Ave., will host the event with parking available at nearby lots.
The Brevard Humane Society plans to add a ‘Pet Photo Booth’ this year, offering free snapshots for attendees. Volunteers will also distribute educational materials about responsible pet ownership. With sunny weather forecasted for the day, organizers expect record turnout.
