After Hammock Trace tree removals, how to follow up on sidewalk concerns
The county told WKMG that repairs are expected in 2027. Its service portal lets residents track maintenance requests, but no precise project timetable is given in the report.
Brevard County removed 62 mature trees in Viera’s Hammock Trace neighborhood because their roots had buckled sidewalks, county officials told WKMG in an October 2 report. Residents described the loss of shade and the changed appearance of their streets. The next practical question is when the sidewalks will be repaired.
County communications director Don Walker told WKMG that officials consulted an arborist and considered alternatives before removal. The county said cleanup of stumps and debris was continuing and sidewalk repairs were expected next year—2027. The report gives no precise start date, street-by-street work order or completion deadline. That estimate should not be read as a confirmed construction schedule.
For a remaining maintenance concern, the county’s Public Works page links to its Road and Bridge request portal. It serves road-maintenance problems in unincorporated Brevard; the county says it should not be used for state roads, city-maintained streets, emergencies or other serious problems. Public Works lists 321-617-7202 for its office.
The linked portal provides an optional photo attachment. A useful request can identify the location and describe the specific obstruction; that is practical preparation advice, not evidence that a particular site is unsafe. Save the request number, then use Find your Request Here to check progress. A recorded request does not itself establish a repair date.
The county asks users to allow at least three business days for a response and warns that information submitted, including email addresses, becomes a public record. Its general service instructions provide a route for follow-up; they do not supply the missing Hammock Trace repair timetable.
