South Patrick Drive this week: overnight closures and Banana River detours

Separate the nightly paving schedule from the longer intersection traffic shift, and choose the official detour for the direction you need to travel.

South Patrick Drive has two different restrictions to plan around this week: overnight paving closures along the corridor and a longer traffic shift at Banana River Drive. FDOT’s current notices describe both; the end of a nightly work window does not end the intersection restrictions.

Overnight paving: September 27–October 2

FDOT lists intermittent single-lane closures in both directions from Eau Gallie Boulevard to Patrick Space Force Base, 7 p.m.–6 a.m. the following morning, for milling and paving. This is a lane-closure notice, not a full-corridor shutdown. Check the linked closure list before traveling; construction schedules can change.

Banana River Drive: choose the route by direction

At Banana River Drive, between Pine Tree Drive and Indrio Boulevard, FDOT’s posted configuration shifts northbound traffic onto the southbound side, maintaining one lane each way. The utility-work shift was scheduled to start as early as August 2 and last about three months. That estimate is not a confirmed reopening date.

From South Patrick Drive toward eastbound Banana River Drive: the direct access is closed during this configuration. FDOT directs drivers to eastbound Eau Gallie Boulevard to the south or eastbound Desoto Parkway to the north, then S.R. A1A to get around the work zone.

From Banana River Drive east of South Patrick Drive: crossing west over South Patrick is also unavailable. Use S.R. A1A to reach westbound Eau Gallie Boulevard or westbound Desoto Parkway, then return to South Patrick Drive, following FDOT’s posted route.

Completion date remains uncertain

Spectrum News 13’s September 28 report describes overnight noise and daytime backups and reports an end-of-year completion estimate. FDOT’s project page lists early 2027. Those overall-project estimates differ, and neither establishes the reopening day for Banana River Drive. The project also includes bicycle lanes and sidewalk and curb reconstruction.

The official project page is the place to recheck the work-zone configuration; the county closure list supplies the weekly notices. Sources were checked September 28. This guide does not estimate delay minutes or claim firsthand traffic observations.
