Palm Bay Aquatic Center: closure timeline and what to check before your next swim

The city lists a November 30 public closure and two October steps in its operator search. Here is how that timetable differs from current swim hours, lane access and family paperwork.

Palm Bay has put dates on the next steps for its Aquatic Center: an October 7 public information meeting, an October 20 planned request for proposals, and a scheduled November 30 closure to the public. The city’s September 24 announcement describes a search for future operating options. It does not announce a reopening date or a selected operator.

Three dates to keep separate

October 7, 9 a.m.: the city’s presolicitation meeting is at the Aquatic Center, 420 Community College Parkway SE. Interested parties can learn about the facility and ask questions about the coming procurement process. This is an information meeting before proposals are requested.

October 20: the city plans to release its formal request for proposals for operating, managing, programming and/or using the facility. Its information page says submission requirements and deadlines will appear when that request is released. Do not treat October 7 as the formal proposal deadline. November 30 is the separately listed public-closure date.

Before your next swim

The current visitor page labels its fall timetable August 10–November 1. It lists lap swimming Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–8 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–noon. Open swim is listed Saturday, noon–4 p.m.; Friday’s noon–4 p.m. listing is specifically for the splash-pad area. That timetable does not establish November hours or guarantee lane availability.

Check the city’s visitor page and its Swim Meet Closures link before setting out. The city directs visitors to the closure hotline, (321) 726-5680, because weather, staffing or mechanical problems can change access. For general facility questions, it lists (321) 952-2833. A future closure date is not a promise that every session before it will run.

Parents arranging an unaccompanied visit should also check the annual waiver. The city requires a parent or guardian to sign for a minor’s open swimming; without a waiver on file, a parent or guardian must be present. Online waivers are free, but the city says the checkout process must be completed for the waiver to be recorded.

Where to follow changes

Use the city’s Future Operations and RFP Information page for the closure and procurement timetable, and the separate Aquatic Center visitor page for day-to-day access. The city links supporting procurement material through Bonfire and says some access may require a free account. These are different questions: the proposal process concerns the facility’s future; today’s visitor schedule concerns an individual trip. Sources were checked September 26.
