Palm Bay has built a city-hosted AI chatbot to help answer questions about municipal services, according to an October 1 Government Technology report. For residents, the public entry point is “Ask PB” on the city’s website; direct department contacts remain available alongside it.

IT director Rob Beach told the publication that the system searches city-approved information before generating an answer. That approach, called retrieval-augmented generation, is intended to keep responses tied to selected documents rather than general model knowledge. He described a replacement for a commercial chatbot subscription and plans for phased expansion.

Those are the city’s reported design goals, not an independent finding that every answer is correct or that the project saves money overall. The article provides no total project cost or measured accuracy rate. Eliminating a subscription alone does not establish the full cost of running the service.

On October 3, the Ask PB icon at the lower right of the city homepage opened a welcome panel inviting questions about Palm Bay services. This check verified the visible entry point only; no question was submitted and no answer was tested.

Residents who need a department can also use the website’s Contact Us link, which opens the City Service Directory. It can be filtered by category or department. The directory lists Utilities Customer Service at 321-952-3420, Building Permits / Inspections at 321-953-8924 and Public Works Customer Service at 321-952-3437. These provide a direct route for checking a service requirement or following up on a specific issue.
