A body recovered during the search for Melbourne Beach bodyboarder Jason Doyle has been positively identified as his, FOX 35 Orlando reported in its September 29 update, citing the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Doyle was 53.

The update places the recovery on Monday, September 28, and the identification announcement on Tuesday, September 29. It marks a development beyond Monday morning’s accounts, which still described Doyle as missing.

Doyle disappeared while bodyboarding near Ponce de Leon Park on Sunday, September 27. WFTV’s earlier report, citing the sheriff’s office, said he entered the water around 9:30 a.m. and went beneath the surface. Multiple agencies searched the area using boats and aircraft.

Space Coast Daily’s September 30 account also reported that the recovered body had been identified as Doyle, attributing that information to sheriff’s investigators and the medical examiner’s office. The reports reviewed do not provide a medical finding establishing what caused his death. Reports of rough surf or rip-current risk should not be treated as proof of the cause.

For beachgoers, the National Weather Service advises checking the latest surf forecast, observing posted signs and warning flags, and following lifeguard instructions. Its general safety guidance recommends swimming near a lifeguard and never swimming alone. This is general advice, not a finding about Doyle’s experience or the circumstances of his death.

If someone is in trouble in a rip current, NWS advises alerting a lifeguard or calling 911 when no lifeguard is available, and throwing something that floats. It warns that people attempting rescues can themselves become victims.
