Correction: Melbourne’s January 2026 treatment notice
The earlier account misstated the treatment change and contact number and omitted precautions for specialized water users. The original notice described a temporary disinfection switch.
This page corrects our November 13, 2025 article about Melbourne’s planned January 5–26, 2026 water-treatment change. It is historical coverage, not a statement about present water conditions.
The city announced a temporary change in disinfection method, rather than the equipment upgrade described in our earlier article. Its notice said free chlorine, without ammonia, would temporarily replace the chloramine combination normally used by the city. Customers could notice a chlorine taste or odor; the city said water would remain safe for drinking during the scheduled change.
The notice separately warned that kidney-dialysis and aquatic-system users might need precautions and should seek guidance from an appropriate professional. It cautioned that the change could adversely affect dialysis machines and harm fish or aquatic mammals if not properly addressed. Our earlier account omitted those qualifications.
Our article also gave the nonworking number 321-555-0199. The original city notice instead listed the Water Production Division at 321-608-5700. We could not substantiate the attributed spokesperson quotation, plant details, service-population figure or prior-project claims in our earlier account; this correction replaces those additions.
