What the $1.75 million funding announcement means for Bowen Aquarium’s turtle care complex

Bowen Aquarium’s planned sea turtle care complex at Port Canaveral was the subject of a $1.75 million federal funding announcement on February 18, 2026. The aquarium’s timeline is separate from that funding announcement. An April 14 release announced a December 2, 2026 groundbreaking. The project’s FAQ, read October 1, repeats that date and estimates 24 to 30 months of construction afterward, plus time for animals to acclimate.

That is a project estimate, not a confirmed public opening date or a separate opening commitment for the turtle complex. The funding announcement and planned groundbreaking should not be read as evidence that visitors can already use the new facility.
